Build the Trashcan Seismograph 1

DETECT EARTHQUAKES with this sensor!

You can use this sensor to detect earthquakes and infrasonic waves when you build the Trashcan Seismograph. You can also build infrasonic microphones and even regular microphones and musical instrument contact pickups using this sensor.

The Seismic-123 is $ 40.00 + $ 10.00 s/h.

You can build this trashcan seismograph to detect earthquakes both far and near. It uses common parts and is easy to adjust.

Below is a functional diagram of the sesismograph, should you want to design it differently. The seismograph detects up and down ground motion and receives at a frequency of 2 Hz. You can ofcourse change this by modifying the design. There are no liquids needed for dampening the swing of the weight-magnet mass.

RECORDING SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE from www.dataq.com.

DATAQ SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE (13 bit data resolution. Best unit, higher signal gain.)

Seismic waves have a frequency range between 0.3 Hz to 3 Hz. For best seismograph performance use the center of the band between 1 Hz to 1.5 Hz.
